Sturgeon Lake approves bid to fix fire hall roof

The Sturgeon Lake city council accepted the bid by Beaver Roofing to make repairs to the fire hall roof to remedy numerous leak issues, at their regular meeting held remotely on May 12.

The bid by Beaver Roofing will be to apply a sealant, which was significantly less than the bid by Commercial Roofing to put on metal flashing. Mayor Todd Danielski stated the repair will be more of a Band-Aid for the time being but he would like to see a new hall in the next five years.

The council agreed to seek out and hire a general maintenance worker. The need came about when the person they hired to help maintain the water and sewer systems alongside PeopleService said he was not able to maintain the amount of hours needed by the city. A motion was passed to form a hiring committee made up of Councilors Marsha Helfman and Jessica Langhorst along with City Clerk Loralea Beede-Slocum to conduct the process and present a hiring recommendation by the next regular meeting.

The council approved moving ahead with the water tower cleaning, going with the lesser quote from KLM that had been proposed previously.

The council approved two subdivision requests to split smaller parcels off portions of land in Sturgeon Lake.

A motion was passed to purchase a locator from Utility Logic to assist with water and sewer operations.

The next regular city council meeting is June 9 at 7 p.m.
