Carlton County Household Hazardous Waste Facility – closed until further notice


The Carlton County Household Hazardous Waste Facility (HHW) typically operates early May through early October of each year. As of May 1, 2020, the Carlton County HHW will be closed until further notice. There is a possibility of the facility opening later in the season. Carlton County residents may bring household hazardous waste to the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District’s HHW Facility which will be re-opening beginning May 7, 2020. They are accepting drop-offs only and the Product Reuse Center is closed. The WLSSD HHW Facility is located at 27th Ave West in Duluth and is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 9 AM—4 PM.

The Carlton County Transfer Station offers solid waste disposal and recycling services to Carlton County residents. The current operating hours for the Transfer Station are Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturdays 8:30 AM to 1 PM. No mattresses are currently accepted. Out-of-county waste is not accepted until further notice. Carlton County residents only.
