COVID-19 cases in corrections facilities continue to climb

The number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Carlton County has climbed to 53, with over half of those cases coming from the Department of Corrections (DOC) facility in Moose Lake.

According to the DOC, 29 patients at the facility have tested positive, 34 negative, 10 still pending, and 31 presumed positive.

The Moose Lake facility is a medium-security facility with over 1,000 male offenders.

In Pine County, the number of positive cases jumped from 12 last week to 56 this week. According to Minnesota Department of Corrections reports, at least 45 of those positive cases come from the DOC facility in Willow River. Seven more cases are presumed positive.

The Willow River facility is a minimum security boot camp program with just over 140 offenders currently.

No deaths related to COVID-19 have yet been reported in Carlton or Pine County.
