Author Tiffany Lonetto

Tiffany Lonetto of Barnum may be young at 19 years of age, but she already has two published novels on her list of accomplishments. My Adventure, her most recent book which came out this January, is the story of a young girl whose parents are germaphobes. She has spent her entire life locked up in her house until one day she gets up the nerve to open her window, and that's when the adventure begins.

Being an author wasn't always the plan, but things took a turn during her junior year at Moose Lake High School when her father was diagnosed with lymphoma. She had begun a creative writing class at the same time with an assignment to write a 20-page story.

"The cancer came out of nowhere and really took my family by surprise," said Lonetto. "I went to a very dark place in life and [that] assignment helped me open up."

Her English teacher, Sarah Haasis, connected her to Sigma's Bookshelf, a traditional book publisher that works exclusively with teen authors. That eventually led to the publication of Lonetto's first book, No Ordinary Summary, the story of a boy dying of cancer whose sister helps make the things on his bucket list happen before he passes.

"There is nothing better than being able to see the expressions on a family member's face that you are getting a book published at 17 years old, let alone another published at 19!" said Lonetto.

Not one to sit on her laurels, Lonetto is currently working on Nothing's Ordinary, the sequel to her first book, and has two other books in the pipeline.

As for some advice for aspiring authors, Lonetto said, "Don't think you can't do it. Don't think 'it's a bad idea for a book,' because I had a lot of doubts. Write the book and love your ideas because I promise others will too!"

My Adventure is available for purchase on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. To learn more about Sigma's Bookshelf, head to sigmasbookshelf.com.
