Barnum house total loss in fire


On March 29, at 12:16 p.m., Carlton County Sheriff’s Office Communications received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 4120 County Road 6 in Barnum Township.

The initial report was that the water heater inside the residence had started on fire and the flames had spread to the residence.

Members of the Barnum Fire Department, Moose Lake Police Department, and Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the fire and confirmed that all of the occupants were able to get out of the residence. An adult male and two juveniles were transported by Mercy Hospital Ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. They were transported for treatment due to smoke inhalation, their condition is unknown but is not believed to be life threatening. The family has been placed in contact with the American Red Cross for assistance. There were several pets that were inside the residence and died as a result of the fire. The structure was a total loss.

The State Fire Marshal was contacted and is assisting with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing by the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office.

The other agencies that assisted with the fire were Conservation Officers from the Minnesota DNR, Mahtowa, Moose Lake, and Kettle River Fire Departments.
