Schools from around the region, country, and even Sweden converged on the DECC in Duluth on March 6-7 for the Lake Superior and Northern Lights Regionals of FIRST Robotics.

This year, FIRST partnered up with Star Wars' "Force for Change" and the scenario for the robots was collecting energy cells for a futuristic city. Red and blue teams of three robots each earned points by launching "energy cells" (yellow balls) into an opening about 8 feet above them or into a lower opening at their level. Additional points were awarded for being able to spin a color wheel disk (and extra for making it stop on a specific color). When the final alarm sounded, the robots had to hook onto a hanging beam and lift themselves off the ground. Teams were awarded extra points if they managed to keep the bar parallel to the ground.

Underneath the Barnum Bombatrons' robot, a special message of "Bottem" could be found in honor of long time Superintendent Dave Bottem who passed away recently.
