The Lady Rebels went up against the Crosby-Ironton Rangers and the Barnum Bombers this past week.

On February 11, MLWR took on Crosby-Ironton. It was a game that meant a lot in the playoff standings. The ladies were able to take the win and place 2nd in the current sub section standings as of that night.

Maci Kukuk started off the Rebel scoring but CI was able to answer with a layup and a free throw. The game saw a few score changes in the first few minutes, but the Rebels were able to go up at one point by five. The lead was trimmed to one and eventually the Rangers took a three point lead, but that was held briefly, when Natalie Mikrot hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 17. MLWR had a brief cold spell that allowed CI to go up 27-17. A free throw by Ella Rhoades and a 3-point shot by Maci Kukuk re-ignited the Rebel scoring although the Rangers were able to answer. CI was up 33-23 when Monica Mikrot hit a 3 point shot and then Maci Kukuk stole the inbounds pass and put in an easy layup to cut the lead to 5. Skyla Thompson made the layup off a Maci Kukuk defensive rebound and outlet to trim the Ranger lead to 3. CI pushed the lead out to 6 for the half time lead of 37-31.

Both teams traded baskets to begin the second half, but the Rangers were able to maintain the 6 point lead until a missed Ranger free throw lead to a Rebel rebound, outlet and a nice Kelli Granquist assist to Monica Mikrot for the 3 point shot, pulling the Rebels within 2 at 44-42 CI. The Rangers extended their lead, but the Rebels kept the pressure on and pulled within 1. Emily Bohnsack attempted a spin move into a layup but was fouled on her way up, hitting both free throws to allow the Rebels to take the 49-48 lead. The 1 point lead traded hands many times until Ella Rhoades hit a nice reverse jumper to put the Rebels up by 3 and then a defensive rebound by Maci Kukuk off a missed CI shot lead to a 3-pointer made by Kukuk extending the Rebel lead to 6. The lead allowed the Rebels to keep the game in check and end the game at the free throw line. Rebels won 83-77.

On February 13, MLWR met up with rival Barnum. It turned out to not be the Rebels night as the Bombers took a quick 10-0 lead before the Rebels were able to hit a 3-point shot by Natalie Mikrot. The Bombers continued to add to their lead as the lack of Rebel defensive rebounding allowed the Bombers, at times, multiple opportunities in a single possession. MLWR would claw back into the game, but the Bombers scrappy play allowed them to extend their lead. The Rebels fought back to get within 9 points. Barnum took a 34-23 half time lead into the locker room.

Barnum continued their strong play in the second half taking a 41-27 lead to start, but the Rebels began their comeback by playing tough defense and forcing Bomber turnovers. Scoring by Natalie Mikrot and Kelli Granquist brought the Rebels within 8 points 41-33. A Monica Mikrot 3-pointer whittled the Bomber lead down to 5. Ella Rhoades hit a jumper and a Maci Kukuk 3-pointer tied the game at 42. Barnum scored 3 quick points, but an Ella Rhoades free throw set brought the Rebels within 1 with about 6 minutes left. MLWR was not able to get past the tie as the Bombers finished off the game with a 59-50 win.
