MLWR Lady Rebels lose to Esko

January 9, 2020

The MLWR Lady Rebels took on the Esko Eskomos in their first game back from the Christmas break.

The game started out with each team taking a while to get their game going. Esko scored first with K. Demuth going back door for the easy layup. Natalie Mikrot then hit a 3-pointer to put the Rebels up 3-2. Esko scored the next 11 points before Emily Bohnsack was able to hit a 3-pointer, making the score 12-6. Alivia Mallory had the hot hand for the Rebels that night. She hit 2 free throws then broke for a quick transition for an easy layup, making the score 14-10 Esko. Maci Kukuk hit a 3 and Natalie Mikrot picked off an Esko pass and drove down the length of the court for a 2-point layup.

The Eskomos scored the next 11 points before Alivia Mallory drove in for a layup and a foul but missed the free throw. Natalie Mikrot hit a fade away jumper making the score 30-19 Esko. The Rebels and Eskomos continued to trade baskets and Esko took a 35-28 lead into half time.

Esko started off the second half with a 3-pointer and Alivia Mallory added a layup and a free throw. Esko slowly started to pull ahead to put the game away in the second half. MLWR struggled to score, only putting an additional 19 points on the board to the Eskomos 34 in the second half.

Alivia Mallory was the top Rebel scorer with 22 points, Natalie Mikrot with 10, Emily Bohnsack 10, Maci Kukuk and Ella Rhoades with 4 a piece.

“Tough game for us tonight,” said Coach Judd. “The girls played hard but we did not shoot the ball consistently well throughout the game to stay in it. Esko’s big game experience paid off for them tonight and hopefully we can get another chance against them in the future. I was happy for Alivia Mallory who had her best game as a varsity player thus far and Emily Bohnsack played a very nice game as well. Every game somebody new is stepping up and I think that is important for us to be able to know that if someone is having an off night then another person can step up and fill the void.”
