Brady Watrin put down two dunks in the Rebels boys' basketball game in Willow River against Cook County. Rebels won 102-55 and are 7-0 going into the Christmas tournament in St. Cloud.

In the Willow River gym on Friday, December 20, the Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels (7-0) defeated the Cook County Vikings 102-55. That was the second consecutive game they scored over 100 and the third time this season. MLWR scored 103 points against Mesabi East on Tuesday, December 17, and in their first game of the year on December 3, they had 101 points against Virginia.

The Rebels had a dozen players scoring. Brady Watrin was the leader with 24. Landin Kurhajetz and Mason Olson had 15, Phillip Sheetz 11, Logan Orvedahl 8, Michael Olson 7, Sam Dewey 6, Carter Johnson 5, Drew Danielson 4, Ben Dewey 3, Conner Welch and Alex Watrin each had 2. The Rebels made seventeen 3-point shots. Scoring from beyond the circle were Orvedahl, Ben Dewey, Sam Dewey, Sheetz, Mason Olson, Michael Olson, and Kurhajetz.

Vikings' Pete Sutton scored 35 of Cook County's 55 points.

With this Polar League win, the Rebels are in first place in the Polar League. Esko is second followed by Barnum, Two Harbors, South Ridge, and Cook County. In Section 7AA, MLWR is first with QRF of 64.1, Crosby-Ironton is second 57.1, Esko is third 54.5, then it's Pequot Lakes 52.5, Pierz 41.9, Aitkin 33.4, and Pillager 30.1. The team is also included in the Minnesota Basketball News top 20 boys' teams at number 20. The Rebels' QRF ratings of 64.1 puts them at 24, out of the 125 Class AA teams, in the state of Minnesota.

The Rebels' JV team defeated Cook County 71-24. The undefeated boys' seventh grade won games with Carlton and Barnum last week. The Rebels' eighth grade were victorious over Carlton and Barnum also. Their only loss was their first game of the season with Esko.

Thursday, December 26, the Rebels competed in the St. Cloud Cathedral three-day holiday tournament. Because of the paper's early deadline those games will be in next week's paper.
