The ML/WR Lady Rebels defeated the Hinkley-Finlayson Jaguars in their first game of the 2019-2020 season, 75-59. Rebels' Natalie Mikrot only needed 26 points to join the ML/WR Rebels 1000 point club on Tuesday but fell short by 3 points, albeit in a winning effort.

The first half started out with a 5-point lead for the Rebels before the Jaguars scored their first points at the 15-minute mark. The Rebels scored 4 3-point shots pushing the lead to 13-8. Alivia Mallory and Ella Rhoades scored 2 each to extend the point total to 17. Hallie Rootkie (H-F) was able to keep the Jaguars in the game scoring 5 straight points to tie the game at 17 and then take the lead at 19-17. Three pointers were traded each by the Rebels and Jaguars to tie the game again at 22. H-F took the lead again by hitting 2 free throws making the score 24-22. Another free throw for the Jaguars extended the lead to 25-22 before Rhoades hit a 2-pointer and Monica Mikrot hit one of her 3 3-pointers to make the score 27-25 Rebels. Kelli Granquist got a rebound by positioning herself under the basket and put it back for 2, increasing the score to 29-26. H-F was able to get 2 points before the buzzer making it 29-28 at half time.

The second half started out much like the first with the Rebels taking the first 4 points and then H-F getting easy inside shots and free throws to keep themselves the game. The Rebels had a 36-30 lead after a Maci Kukuk drive to the basket off an inbounds play, drawing the foul and hitting the free throw for the old fashion 3-point play. The Jaguars answered with a bucket and free throw of their own making it 36-33. Each team scored two to make it 38-35. The scoring went back and forth until about the 9-minute mark before the Rebels extended the lead. The scoring barage started with free throws by Natalie Mikrot and Maci Kukuk bringing the score to 43-42. Natalie Mikrot scored 2 straight 3-pointers to push it to 49-42. Monica Mikrot and Alivia Mallory added two more 3-point shots, and various fast breaks and free throws, eventually pushing the lead to 75-59.

Natalie Mikrot lead Rebels scoring with 23 points, Monica Mikrot with 19, Maci Kukuk 15, Alivia Mallory 6, Ella Rhoades 6, Kelli Granquist 3, Emily Bohnsack 2, Skyla Thompson 1. Kelli Granquist lead the team in rebounds with 10, Ella Rhoades with 8, Maci Kukuk 5, Monica Mikrot and Grace Stephenson 3, Skyla Thompson, Carmen Hoffman and Emily Bohnsack 2, and Natalie Mikrot 1. Maci Kukuk topped the assist board with 5, Kelli Granquist with 4, N. MIkrot 3, Ella Rhoades and Emily Bohnsack 2, and Skyla Thompson and Monica Mikrot with 1 each.

"We had a nice team victory," said Coach Judd. "Always fun to start with a win and see everyone on the floor and contributing in some way. I was very proud of how our girls battled all night and we had a lot of great performances. Unfortunately we were not able to get Natalie her 1000 points tonight. We had many positives in tonight's game and many things that we have to improve on."
