Moose Lake Willow River Rebels boys' basketball team started practicing Monday, November 18, in Willow River. The team lost two graduating seniors, Adam Dragicevich and Carter Klund from last year. This year's team has a strong group of returning underclassmen, with only two seniors, Michael Olson and Ben Dewey. Juniors are Mason Olson, Brady Watrin, Carter Johnson. Sophomores are Duane Broughton, Phillip Sheetz, Sam Dewey, Landin Kurhajetz, and Logan Orvedahl.

The Hermantown Hawks hosted a three-team scrimmage Saturday, November 23. The C-team, JV, and Varsity went up against Hermantown and Deer River. Each team worked on their offensive and defensive plays on half the court and then played a 20-minute full court scrimmage.

After the scrimmage, Wes Cummins, Rebels' head varsity coach said, "This should be a fun season. We have plenty of depth, experience, and skill. If we can stay healthy and play as a team, I think we'll be tough to beat in March."

The Rebels opened their season on Saturday, November 26, at the Proctor High School Gym. On Tuesday, December 3, they travel to Virginia. C team and JV game time is 5:45 p.m. with arsity to start at 7:15 p.m. Their first home game is Friday, December 6, against Pillager in the Willow River High School Gymnasium.
