This year Sonshine Community Services is donating $1,200 to the Moose Lake Area Food Shelf and $300 to the local Thanksgiving Dinner sponsored by the Sturgeon Lake Area Lions Club.

Sonshine Community Services (SCS) is a Christian based nonprofit organization devoted to helping those less fortunate in the Moose Lake and surrounding area. SCS is able to give back to the community through donations by the general public of gently used items to the Sonshine Closet and the generous donation of time and energy of around 40 men and women volunteers from all denominations in the area. This organization believes in giving those in need a helping hand and also providing a good supply of reasonably priced useable items for all.

In the past year, SCS has been able to send over 40 chidren to youth camps, helped many with delinquent bills in danger of shut offs, and those with medical needs. The process to receive help involves picking up a form from the Sonshine Closet, filling out the form, attaching the overdue invoice, and then returning everything back to the store. The Compassion Team then pursues the request further and if approved, payment is sent directly to the company on the invoice (they never give cash directly to an individual).

Another area SCS helps in our community is through Sonshine Community Services Grants. Local nonprofit organizations can request money to help cover part of the cost of an event that is community oriented. The event has to be something the community can participate in.

Their wish is for everyone to have a very Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas.
