November 28, 2019

William Peel will serve as Willow River superintendent for another three years. The 2020-23 contract was approved by the school board at its regular meeting Tuesday, November 19, following his closed session evaluation.

The district received a clean report from BerganKDV on its annual financial audit.

Secondary Principal Neil Schiller reported a head cheer coach is in the process of being hired through Moose Lake Schools. He said there are 18 projects suggested so far for community day prior to the winter break. One project is to build benches for restorative circle group discussions.

Superintendent Peel and the school board congratulated the special education staff, represented by Bambi Neumann. The district received a certificate from the Minnesota Department of Education for meeting or exceeding special education record and reporting requirements and the dedication necessary to make that happen.

Peel also announced the district will be purchasing Aiphone intercoms and Hall Pass school visitor system through one time Safe School state aid for school security. He said those funds can also be used to purchase vape detectors for the bathrooms and locker rooms.

Two meetings were announced: a sports liaison meeting will be held December 4, at 5 p.m. at Willow River, and a public presentation of the World’s Best Work Force plan and progress will be held December 10 at 5 p.m.
