Barnum Schools transportation audit is a go

Barnum Schools’ transportation will be undergoing an audit after the board passed a motion hiring Watson Consulting Group to conduct the audit. The board agreed to the audit after a presentation by Tom Watson at the meeting on November 19. The same company is currently finishing an audit of Moose Lake Schools transportation system.

Board Member Patrick Poirier wanted to know what sort of long term gain the school could receive from the audit and that they were not interested in short-term fixes. “We’re not kicking the can anymore, no more Band-aids.”

Watson explained that the audit would analyze the system, seek out flaws, and look at ways to improve efficiency overall for the long haul. One possibility they would look into would be creating a joint transportation system with Moose Lake. Watson emphasised that staff and vehicles would remain with their respective schools. They would not merge but rather share. However, such a decision would fall to the school boards in the future.

Both Superintendent Mike McNulty of Barnum and Robert Indihar of Moose Lake have expressed interest in a joint transportation system.

HIRES: Council approved hiring Johanna Stenson as part-time School Readiness Assistant (this is in addition to her current duties as Bomber Club Lead Teacher), Brandon Newman and David Duesler as Assistant Boys Basketball Coaches (shared position), and Sarah Jurek as Assistant Girls Basketball Coach.

ONLINE SERVICE FEE: Council approved to increase the online payment service fee from $3.50 per usage to $4.25 per usage. This was due to increased fees charged to the district by PaySchools.

NEXT MEETING: The next regular meeting of the school board is set for December 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the board room.
