Boswell faces federal charges for shooting man at funeral

November 14, 2019

Shelby Boswell

Shelby Boswell, who was arrested for allegedly shooting a man in the head during a funeral in Cloquet on October 18, is now facing federal charges.

On November 6, a grand jury in the District of Minnesota indicted Shelby Gene Boswell in federal court wth possession and discharge of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Following the October 18, 2019 incident at the Fond du Lac Head Start Building, the Carlton County Attorney's Office (CCAO) charged Mr. Boswell with numerous State of Minnesota offenses. The CCAO and local law enforcement worked closely with the United States' Attorney's Office during the ongoing investigation. Federal prosecution provides the greatest consequences for Mr. Boswell's alleged crimes. As a result of the federal indictment, State charges have been dismissed at this time.

The CCAO stated they are committed to prosecution that maximizes the long-term safety of our community. To that end, the CCAO collaborates with law enforcement and prosecution agencies at all levels of government. The CCAO thanks all entities that assisted in this matter for their immediate, professional and thorough response.
