Rebels Cross Country competes in Section 7A Championships

The Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum varsity boys and girls ran in the section 7A championships on Thursday, October 25 at the Cloquet Country Club. The Rebels were unable to advance any runners to the state tournament but the kids ran hard and some of the times were again personal bests.

The girls varsity finished 5th as a team in the event with 195 points. Individually, Coriella Sheetz was the top Rebel finisher (32nd) with a time of 21:32.7, Kelli Granquist (36th) 21:36.4, Lilly Petty (38th) 21:43.3, Shannon Granquist (41st) 21:44.8, Rayna Klejeski (48th) 21:55.4, Laya Danelski (83rd) 23:20.4, and Savannah Gamst (95th) 23:55.6. Sheetz, Danelski, and Gamst ran their last race for the Rebels as seniors. Steph Maciej will also be graduating in the upcoming year.

In the boys race, ML/WR/Barnum finished 7th in team scoring with 214 points. Maverick Koecher finished 16th overall and was the top runner for the Rebels with a time of 17:19.9, Shawn Bailey (36th) 18:06.8, Johnny Danelski (47th) 18:15.4, Chance Lunde (56th) 18:23.6, Tan Dipman (59th) 18:28.7, Joseph Mikrot (60th) 18:30.7, and Everett Fitzsimmons (96th) 19:49.9. Dipman and Fitzsimmons will be graduating for the Rebels next year along with senior manager Blake Oquist.

“It was a great season and it was nice to see many of our section runners go out with a season best performance,” said Coach Whalen. “I'm proud of how the kids raced.”
