Moose Lake has more musical entertainment to look forward to as Agate Encores Community Concerts readies for the start of its second season with a concert in October featuring the Twin Ports Wind Orchestra. Agate Encores held its first season last year with great success and plans to continue bringing a variety of musical talent to the region.

The season will consist of the Twin Ports Wind Orchestra on October 27, Dan Newton's Café Accordion Orchestra on November 17, An Old-Fashioned Family Christmas on December 15, and Ring of Kerry with Rince Nua Irish dancers on March 15. All concerts start at 2:00 p.m. at the Moose Lake Community School Auditorium.

While they will stick to four concerts a season for the time being, the times of those concerts have all been moved to Sunday afternoons. According to Jeanne Doty, one of the board members for Agate Encores, the change to all Sunday concerts was based on responses they received from their audiences.

Input from those who attended the concerts also led them to broaden their search for musicians along with the variety of genres and instrumentation.

The cost of tickets has remained the same, however. "It's important for us to keep our tickets as inexpensive as possible. The prices are the same as last year even though it's more expensive this year to hold the concerts," said Doty.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Individual tickets at the door are $15, an individual season pass is $45, and a family season pass is $115. The family pass includes all those who live under one roof. Season tickets are also transferable.

While tickets can still be bought directly from board members, one of the big changes they are making this year is giving online ticketing a try. Season tickets are now available, both online and from Agate Encores board members (Lee and Joe Mogen, Diane and Steve Olson, Regi Garvey, Rose Kuhlman, Shirley Stebbins, Jeanne and Dan Doty). Tickets can also be purchased at the door with credit card, cash, and check.

Even though the first concert is yet to arrive, the board is already planning ahead for the next season. "We've actually already booked for December of 2020," said Doty.

The possibility of more concerts being added in future seasons is not out of the question. "We would like to start modestly and grow sustainably," said Doty. Understandably, more or larger events would require more funding. The cost of hosting the concerts is currently sustained via ticket sales as well as advertising by local businesses, but the board may look into grant opportunities in the future.
