Free trial of Continuous Glucose Monitor available to patients with diabetes

A one-month free trial of Medtronic’s Guardian™ Connect Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system will be available to patients with diabetes by appointment on Tuesday, July 23 through Mercy Hospital’s Diabetes Program.

Tracking glucose levels throughout the day and night, CGM devices detect trends and patterns in persons with diabetes. By identifying episodes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, the device is used to help make adjustments in both acute and long-term therapy. The real-time information gathered through the device provides the valuable insight needed to proactively manage diabetes and improve blood sugar control.

“Most patients who wear CGM really enjoy watching how their food choices and activity affect their blood glucose levels in real time,” said Sarah Class, RN, Diabetes Educator. “It will also alert them if their blood glucose levels fall above or below the threshold that we set, so they can respond appropriately. For people who are unaware they are having low blood sugars, this is especially beneficial.”

Guardian™ Connect system users can:

• See current glucose levels and trends, right on their smartphone, at any time (Must have an Apple Device: iPhone 6 or newer, iPod Touch 6th Gen, or an iPad)

• Get alerts – including predictive alerts up to 60 minutes in advance – of high and low glucose events

• Use CareLink™ system platform to enable remote monitoring by physicians and other care partners

• Access the Sugar.IQ™ diabetes assistant app

Call Mercy at 218-485-5836 to make a 60-minute appointment to take part in the free trial.
