Moose Lake Junior Ambassador chosen for 2019-2020

Savannah Gamst, 17, has been chosen as the Moose Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Junior Ambassador for 2019-2020.

She follows in the footsteps of her older sister, Mattie, who was a junior ambassador several years ago.

The girls are the daughters of Missy and Chris Gamst of Moose Lake.

In a recent interview, Savannah said that she will be a senior at Moose Lake High School in the fall. Meanwhile, she is busy this summer working in the chamber visitor’s center on Saturdays and going to practices three times a week for cross country and hockey; she is captain for both teams. Ice is maintained year around at the arena in Cloquet, she explained. She also particpates in choir during the school year.

Savannah is looking forward to all of the summer events.

“Working at the events is going to be fun,” she said. “I’ve lived here my whole life and I’ve always gone to the Fourth of July and Agate Days. This year I will be able to help out. I will be able to give back to all of the businesses that supported my school and my sports teams.”

Agates are a popular stone that attracts visitors to the area, something Savannah is familiar with.

“My sister and I used to pick agates,” she said. “They are so pretty in jewelry.”

But learning how popular agates are to others is new to her.

“People come in and say that they are excited about the Agate Days,” she said. “It makes me want to cry. I see names in the visitors’ log and am amazed that they are from all over the country. I never knew that!”
