Talks of NBC News special focused on Pine County's Project RISE

Discussion with NBC News has been taking place, according to Probation Director Terry Fawcett, about the work that Pine County has been doing with their truancy initiative, Project RISE. Fawcett told the county board on June 4 that the news program is interested in their efforts to break the school to prison pipeline.

“The Project RISE team has had some dialogue with a Senior Producer from NBC. They are impressed with the work that has been done in our community in attempting to break the school-to-prison pipeline. While there are no guarantees of our work making network TV, just having their interest is a reminder of the good that our community is trying to do for its children.”

Fawcett said they are not sure of a timeline yet, as there are a lot of moving parts with network TV and a lot of approvals that are still needed. “We are hopeful to get something done within a few weeks but not sure now due to end of school year,” said Fawcett. “We are also unsure of what show it would be on. It could be Dateline or it could be NBC.com or the Today Show, for example. Or they could just scrap it altogether.”
