Scam alert: don't be a victim!

In recent weeks several of our friends and neighbors in Moose Lake, Minnesota and other communities in the area have been targeted by hi-tech and fast talking scammers working online and on the phone to separate us from our hard earned money.

According to area banking officials and law enforcement agencies, tends of thousands of dollars have been lost to sophisticated internet tech support scams, money wiring/gift card scams, and telephone scams designed to get your personal information.

Open to the public and presented by the DFL Dragon Ladies Caucus, all are welcome to attend a fun and informative night out to learn how to spot scams and the steps you need to take to protect your family.

It will be held at the Moose Lake Brewing Company (244 Lakeshore Drive in Moose Lake) on Thursday, June 27 at 6 pm. Guest speakers include Kelly Dorman, Retail & Marketing Manager, and Denise Matuseski, Internal Auditor with the First National Bank of Moose Lake. Investigator Jamie Jungers with the Moose Lake Police Department will also take part in the presentation.

The FBI reports non-delivery of merchandise is a common internet fraud. According to the Federal Government, scam artists also defraud millions of people each year by using internet services or software with internet access to trick victims into sending money or giving our personal information. Don’t be a victim.
