Moose Lake School receives grant for youth-driven project

The youth board members of the Northland Foundation’s KIDS PLUS Youth In Philanthropy Program awarded nine grants totaling $7,952 during its spring 2019 round of grantmaking to support youth-driven projects across the region.

The 2018-2019 board included 15 high school students from Cloquet, Duluth, Ely, Hibbing, McGregor, Moose Lake, and Superior, WI, and four adult mentors. Youth In Philanthropy receives key funding support from the Minnesota Power Foundation, Northland Foundation, and members of the Northland Foundation’s Emeritus Trustee Group.

“The young board members, guided by adult mentors, approach grantmaking with brains and heart. They weigh each proposal, ask tough questions, and ultimately vote to fund projects all over the region,” stated Tony Sertich, Northland Foundation’s President.

Moose Lake Schools received $1,000 to support the creation of an outdoor study area at the school for junior and high school students that includes seating, tables, plants, and decorative art sculptures.
