Never give up, never surrender

From the Editor

This past weekend I participated in the Moose Run 5K. After a long, trying road of leg pain issues coupled with asthma and brutal seasonal allergies, I feel like I’m finely getting some traction on this whole “running thing.” I’ll confess I’m not even to the running stage, actually.

But I’m still trying, as so many other people are.

I’ve been asked many times why I’m doing this, why am I pushing myself to run, increasing my mileage each week, going out in inclement weather, and so on.

Usually I cite my father as inspiration for pursuing this lifestyle. He’s been doing marathons for as long as I can remember. That’s certainly part of the reasoning, but not all of it.

I keep trying despite the many setbacks I’ve had for years, because I want to prove myself for myself, not for anyone else. I want to be able to look back at my life and say “I did that.” When everyone else says they couldn’t, I want to say, that despite the hardships, I didn’t give up. I persevered. I did it.
