Moose Lake Star Gazette - Serving Carlton and Pine Counties Since 1895

Moose Lake Star-Gazette

A symbol of remembrance

The American Legion Auxiliary from Post 379 Men and Women will be out with Poppies on May 10, so feel free to donate to this wonderful memorial.

We will be at Art’s Cafe, Market Place, Moose Lake Post Office, Shopko, 1st National Bank, and Joe Jitters.

For many years, the American Legion Auxiliary has distributed the memorial poppy to remind Americans that millions sacrificed their lives and health to keep our nation free. Each post had to make their own poppies at one time back in 1920.

During WWI, the poppy flourished on the battlefields of Flanders among the shelled buildings and bomb-scarred landscape. Like the blood that was shed there, its brilliant red bloom became a sign of hope and renewal. For those who would never leave, those who had given their lives, it is a perpetual memorial to their bravery.

The American Legion Auxiliary poppy is handmade by veterans who receive a small stipend for each poppy made. Memorial poppy contributions are devoted entirely to rehabilitation and assistance for veterans and their families. On behalf of those veterans, thank you for caring.
