Rebels defeat McGregor and Carlton, Lose to Esko

On Tuesday, April 9, the Moose Lake Willow River baseball squad took on McGregor, winning 13-3 in five innings. The winning pitcher was Jordan Fjosne, pitching three innings, allowing three hits, three runs, walking five, and striking out five. Ben Dewey pitched the last two innings, striking out four.

The Rebels had 10 hits. Blake Juhl was three for three at the plate hitting two singles and a double with two RBIs. Ben Dewey hit a single and a double, scored twice and one RBI. Henry Ribich hit two singles, scored twice and had two RBIs. Fjosne had one hit and a walk, scored two runs. Cooper Bexell had one hit and one RBI. Danny Whited took a walk, got on base twice on errors, scored twice and one RBI. Logan Privette had one hit scoring one run and two RBIs and was hit by a pitch. Carter Klund got on base with a walk and an error, scored once and had one RBI. Andrew Burns scored one run after getting hit by a pitch. Sam Dewey, Logan Orvedahl, Vance Aho, Drew Danielson and Johan Riihimaki are also members of this 2019 Rebel varsity.

The Rebels hosted the Esko Eskomos on Thursday, April 11. Esko defeated the Rebels 7-0. The Eskomos were held scoreless until the fourth inning, scoring six runs and another run in the sixth inning. The MLWR infield committed six errors. The Rebels had only four hits. Bexell had two, Ben Dewey and Fjosne each with one. Privette and Klund each drew two walks.

Whited was the losing pitcher going six innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking one. Privette finished out the game striking out one. Both MLWR and Esko left seven runners on base.

The Carlton Bulldogs traveled to Moose Lake on Thursday, April 18. Rebels won the contest 5-1. MLWR had seven hits to Carlton’s three hits. Ben Dewey and Juhl each scored once on two hits and two RBIs. Fjosne had two hits (the only double in the game) and one RBI. Ribich and Bexell each had one hit, scoring one run. Klund drew two walks scoring one run. Ribich and Burns reached first on errors.

Bexell was the winning pitcher going six innings, striking out eight, walking three. Privette came in to finish the game, striking out two, allowing one hit and one run.

After the varsity game, the JV played Carlton, winning 13-3. Sam Dewey was the winning pitcher.

Games in the coming week: The Rebels’ varsity and junior varsity will host Cook County at 4:00 on Thursday, April 25. On Friday, April 26, they will play in Cloquet at 4:30. The JV games start when the varsity game is over. The JV only will travel to Baggs Field and play Duluth East on Tuesday, April 30 at 5:00.
