Rebel girls run 10 on Mora, win 11-1

April 18, 2019

On Monday the Moose Lake/Willow River softball girls had another fine pitching performance and got the bats rolling both before a 20-minute rain delay and after to beat the Mora Mustangs in 6 innings, 11-1. Bella Meyer had a 2 run single in the first to get things going for a 3 for 4 day with a double, steal, and 2 runs scored. Switch hitter Maci Kukuk delivered the final blow in the bottom of the sixth, clubbing a ball over the left fielder's head to give the Rebels a walk off victory. Kaitlin Ballentine was 2 for 2 and Natalie Mikrot, Dallis Kukuk, Rachel Christy, Ashley Grutkoski, Gabby Gamst, Sarah Christy, and Maci Kukuk had one hit each. Janna Bode scored 2 runs, each time after reaching base after taking 4 balls. Mikrot also scored twice for the Rebels. Maci Kukuk sparkled in the field and Rachel Christy started a double play in the fourth inning with a nice throw from first to Grutkoski at third, gunning down a runner trying to advance after a routine ground out to Dallis Kukuk at short.

Senior Lilli Skelton started and was sharp in the pitcher's circle, going 4 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 2 and walking none. Eighth grader Sarah Christy finished off the last two innings without allowing a baserunner. She struck out 3.
