Shelby Lonne-Rogentine works at the public library as the new Library Director.

Shelby Lonne-Rogentine is enjoying getting to know the local people since she began her new position of Library Director of the Moose Lake Public Library on Feb. 25.

"The community has been really great so far," she said in a recent interview. "I have enjoyed getting to know the patrons."

Shelby brings a wealth of experience to the library.

"I have a bachelor's degree in English, and I worked for three and a half years in the College of St. Scholastica library," said Shelby. "I've worked at UMD most recently in communications in the Math and Statistics Department as an Executive Administration Specialist."

The position at UMD consisted of web content management and event planning for students as well as writing a newsletter and other communications duties, Shelby explained.

"Now I am using a little of those communications skills as well as my library skills in this job," she said.

Shelby grew up in Proctor and married her husband in 2017. They live in the Duluth area but plan to move to the Proctor-Esko-Cloquet area in the future.

The library director position is part-time.

"I'm here Monday through Wednesday and part of the day on Thursdays," said Shelby. "I will be here occasionally for events on Fridays and Saturdays."

The library is operated by a Board of Directors and Shelby plans to work with the board to bring back groups, such as Friends of the Library.

"We'd like to start that up again," she said. "I also hope to have new events to offer. The Sutter Brothers are coming on Monday, April 29."

As she is getting to know the people and the small-town atmosphere of Moose Lake, Shelby is impressed.

"It seems like everyone likes to be involved," she said. "That's awesome to me. That's what makes everyone so close knit."

Shelby invites people to come to the library to meet her.

"Come in Mondays through Thursdays," she said. "Come to chat, bring suggestions or just to say 'Hi'."
