MLWR Rebels held their first annual tournament at Willow River on Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17. The other teams that traveled to Willow River for the 8th grade tournament were Mora, Bemidji, Duluth Denfeld, Park Center, Two Harbors 7th and 8th grade, and MLWR 7th and 8th grade. They took on the Two Harbors 8th grade in their first contest. Two Harbors was much bigger than the Rebels, but the Rebels came out on top 41-35. Their next game was against Duluth Denfeld. They were much bigger than the Rebels also. The Rebels won 29-25. That win placed them in the championship game against a very talented Mora team. Mora came out on top 40-32. The Rebels struggled all day at the free-throw line. MLWR 8th grade took on Bemidji in the first round, winning. They played Mora in the next round and lost. That put the 8th grade into the third-place game. MLWR 8th grade won that game.
