Lady Rebels fall to Aitkin in Section playoff game

MLWR fell to the Aitkin Gobblers in the their playoff game this past week. Charis Blacklock scored the first two points for the Rebels, but that is all MLWR could muster up for the first 8 minutes of the first half. Blackock hit the next 4 points and Natalie Mikrot hit a free throw to pull within 10 but Aitkin’s ability to hit the 3 pointers was just too much. Mikrot added two more free throws at the end of the first half and Ella Rhoades had two to send the game to half time with Aitkin leading 31-11.

The Rebels began the second half by scoring a 3 pointer by Mikrot but Aitkin returned the favor by answering that 3. MLWR went on a mini run scoring 4 quick points (Ellie Schaumburg and Ella Rhoades) and having stifling defense but Aitkin recovered and all but shut down the Rebel scoring for the remainder of the game. Aitkin took the win 49-23 and advanced to the next round, ending the season for the Rebels.

"It was a tough way to end the season," said Coach Judd. "We were very tight and our inexperience in a playoff game really showed in the game. Obviously we wanted to play better no matter the outcome, but Aitkin was the better team tonight. Best of luck to Coach Williams and his players.

"This loss does not reflect on the season we had. We had a wonderful year with many positives. I am truly proud to have had an opportunity to coach this year's team and to see them grow as individuals and as a team. So many accomplishments from a program standpoint. We unfortunately have to say goodbye to a great senior class as well. Great young ladies who are going to do so well in their future endeavors. They will be missed next season!”
