Moose Lake/Willow River split a pair of games this past week. Monday took the Lady Rebels to Crosby-Ironton and Thursday was the cross-town rival Barnum in Moose Lake.

The Rangers took control of their game from the start by making a quick 10 points before ML/WR was even able to put points on the board. The Rangers never looked back from there. The Rebels did make a little run and were able to get within 10 points midway in the first half but never really made any runs after that. The Rangers won 66-40.

Ella Rhoades led all Rebel scorers with 9 points, Natalie Mikrot 8, Ellie Schaumburg 6, Maci Kukuk 5, Monica Mikrot 3, Charis Blacklock 2, Meghan Granquist 2, and Skyla Thompson 2.

"Hard to beat a team that shot as well as Crosby-Ironton did tonight," said Coach Judd. "I thought we did a good job running our offense but we just could not make enough shots to stay with them. They did a good job making us a one and done team shooting the ball. Not many offensive rebounds for us. They are a good team."

Thursday saw the rival Barnum Bombers come to town for a rematch of a game played earlier in the year that the Rebels won in Barnum by 11. Barnum had a 6-1 lead early in the first half from 2 3-pointers that were made by Mallory Agurkis. Charis Blacklock picked off a Bomber pass that was overthrown and took it in for a layup and was fouled. That series resulted in 3 points making it 6-4 Bombers. It was a back and forth affair with the Bombers holding a 12-6 lead. Meghan Granquist hit 1 of her 3 3's to make it 12-9 at the 11 minute mark in the 1st half. Charis Blacklock put the Rebels in the lead 13-12 and then the Rebel defense took over creating turnovers which resulted in successful transition play. ML/WR took a 29-22 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Rebels started the second half with a 10-0 run sparked by the 3-point shooting of Granquist and the tenacious defense by Ellie Schaumburg causing the turnovers which led to Rebel points.

ML/WR won the second of a 2 game series for the season 64-41. Natalie Mikrot led all Rebel scorers with 17 points, Charis Blacklock 14, Meghan Granquist 13, Ellie Schaumburg 6, Ella Rhoades 3, Monica Mikrot 2, and Emily Bohnsack 2.

"It was a nice win for us. The girls played very well and defensively shut them down in the second half. I love the hustle plays and the physical play we had tonight. This is the first time this program has swept Barnum in a season series in over 30 years so quite the accomplishment for this team."
