Bringing the family together one board game at a time

February 21, 2019

I consider myself to be a tech enthusiast. I play video games, love movies, build computers, and even worked as tech support for a time.

And yet I feel a sense of disquiet when I see young children (like my nieces and nephews) so absorbed with television and games on their kiddie Kindles. The disconnect is real.

But last weekend, several of my family members got together and we played a board game (Settlers of Catan). My niece was actively engaged and nearly beat us all despite being the youngest one by nearly 20 years.

Sometimes it's easy to forget how much closer you feel to people when you interact with them from across a table instead of over a screen.

Do yourself and your family a favor. Skip the TV or movie next time. Play a board game instead.
