Memorial Blood Centers Issues Urgent Appeal for Donors of All Blood Types

February 14, 2019

Due to severe weather, the nation is facing a dangerously low supply of all blood types. This means:

There is just a 1-day supply of many blood types.

There are not enough donations scheduled to make up for the weather-related reduction in donations.

To ensure a steady supply of blood for patients locally and across the country, local nonprofit MBC is asking supporters and donors:

If you can safely brave the cold, our donor centers are open normal operating hours this week. Donations of all blood types are needed.

If you need to cancel your blood donation appointment, please reschedule for the near future to help us recover our inventory.

Please share MBC’s posts on social media, to spread the word about the urgent need for all blood types.

To schedule a blood donation at one of our donor centers or an upcoming blood drive visit us online at MBC.ORG or call 1-888-GIVE-BLD (1-888-448-3253). Nearly 100% of the blood used by patients in Northland hospitals is donated by Northland blood donors with MBC. You may be eligible to give blood if you are:

In good health

Free of antibiotics for 24 hours, unless taken for preventative reasons

Symptom-free for at least 3 days following a cold or flu

17 years or older—or 16 with written Parental Consent.
