District 11 State Senate seat goes to Jason Rarick

February 7, 2019

While the crowd gathered at the Rarick election headquarters in Banning Junction, cheering on statements made by President Trump during his State of the Union Address, Senate District 11 candidate Jason Rarick was pulling ahead in votes against candidates Stu Lourey (D) and Legal Marijuana Now's candidate John "Sparky" Birrenbach. At about 9:45 p.m. state Republican trackers called the election for Rarick who ended the evening of Tuesday, February 5 with 52 percent of the 15,623 votes cast. The seat has traditionally been held by a Democrat.

Rarick came in with 8,127 of the votes, Lourey had 7,171, and John Birrenbach took 1.91 percent of the total votes with 298 votes cast in his direction.

In Moose Lake and Moose Lake Township, 216 votes were cast for Rarick and 314 votes were cast for Lourey.

The remaining term of the senate seat is just short of two years and Rarick will face another election in November 2020.

Rarick's win means a special election will be called to fill his vacated House 11B seat.
