Northwoods Credit Union ran a loan promotion this past holiday season with a generous twist. Members could earn up to 1% cash back on their new loans and had the option of donating part or all the cash back to their area food shelf. Northwoods Credit Union matched EACH member donation up to $50! The total amount donated over two months was $5,021.46! Donations were made to three area food shelves including the Cloquet Salvation Army, the Moose Lake Food Shelf and the Floodwood Area Food Shelf. When presented with Cloquet's portion of the donation, David Westerberg, Case Manager at the Cloquet Salvation Army Office said, "This is going to cover most of my next order, which is great. Mid-January to March is our leanest part of the year in terms of donations, but also the time of year with the most need. Heating bills go up, people are trying to pay off Christmas bills, it's just a tough time of year but this will definitely help." Earlier this fall the Northwoods Credit Union management team worked on putting their holiday loan promotion together and Terry Burn, Senior Vice President/Chief Risk Officer suggested filling a need in the community at the same time. "We thought, let's match those member donations with credit union dollars!"

"Our members showed amazing generosity through this promotion. We had members donate the full 1% cash back they were to receive! It was wonderful to work with our members to make a real impact in our communities," said Doug Wolf, Northwoods Credit Union President/CEO.
