Moose Lake Star-Gazette

And so it begins...

Big life changes don't come often. At least that's what I used to think based on my own experience. Sure, I had moved a number of times with my family, most of my sisters are now married and have children, but change in my own life has normally been slow to come.

That is, until the last couple of years. Since August of 2016, I've purchased my own home, started my own business, published five books, left my job of over eight years, and now find myself in a completely new line of work.

Becoming the new editor of the Moose Lake Star Gazette has been a roller coaster of emotions and also a dream come true. I've always had a passion for writing and discovered while publishing my books that I greatly enjoy the formatting process. This made me very excited to start working on the paper, while silmutaneously freaking out. My first week of working on the paper has confirmed that, while I do know some things, I still have a lot to learn.

Thankfully, the people I now work with are extremely helpful and kind. Without their support, I might have been pulling out my hair and crying in a corner.

Going forward, I hope to do my best in providing the community with relevant local news. Although, I'm sure my mother will let me know if I'm doing poorly. She's the most avid newspaper reader I know.

If you'd like to know a little something about your new editor, I suppose it's only fair to confess that I quote movies and books far too often. There's a very good chance in fact that I may do so in my editorials. As Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings once said, "All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you." And I have decided to enjoy the things I enjoy.

I suppose it's a good time to segue into the fact that I am also an avid geek. I like to point to Professor J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings, as the one who got me into fantasy stories, heros, and magic. That was the series that lead me into writing. Without Tolkien, perhaps my own young adult urban fantasy series would never have come to be.

When I'm not geeking out over the latest Marvel movie, you can find me hanging out with my faithful dog, Buddy. And when he is otherwise indisposed, I will be writing the next chapter in my latest book, creating artwork, attempting to compose music, sewing together a costume, or playing video games.

It's a pleasure to meet you.
