The Shopko Hometown Store in Moose Lake will not be closing.

The Shopko Hometown Store in Moose Lake is not going to close, said Store Manager David Loose in an interview on Jan. 10.

A press release dated Jan. 9 and published in the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported that Shopko will file for bankruptcy on Jan. 15.

"That's not true," said Loose. "McKesson is saying that. It is not coming from Shopko."

According to the article, the McKesson Corporation, a pharmaceutical company based in San Francisco, had claimed that that Shopko corporation owed it $67 million. An attorney for McKesson had said that Shopko was expected to file for bankruptcy on Jan. 15.

"That's just what I know," said Loose. "That started McKesson. It started with a lawsuit against Shopko and they lost in court. They are saying that Shopko is filing bankruptcy on the 15th of January. But that's not the case. Shopko is not commenting on it and not telling the store managers about it."

Loose went on to explain that Shopko has closed other stores in Minnesota.

"Shopko has closed quite a few stores," said Loose. "There are stores that they have closed because they weren't making a profit. But that is just strengthening the company. We are making a profit in the Moose Lake store. I heard that this one wasn't on the list. I don't know everything but, from what I am being told by the people above me, no, this store won't be closed."

The Skopko Hometown store opened in Moose Lake in 2015.
