2019 Barnum levy approved

December 27, 2018

The Barnum School Board set the levy at $733,166.04, which is a 1.67 percent drop from last year’s levy of $749,590.59, at the monthly meeting of the board on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

The board also approved the purchase of fitness equipment from Commercial Second Wind Exercise in the amount of $37,340.

Superintendent Dave Bottem explained that they had checked on the equipment in the other bid received and found that some of it had been outdated. It was no longer shown on the company’s website.

“This is good quality commercial equipment,” he told the board.

The board had made and seconded a motion at the Nov. 20 meeting to purchase commercial grade exercise equipment from Northern Fitness Solutions valued at $48,353. But, after discussion, a motion to table the purchase was passed. Board Member Tim Peterson suggested that more bids be solicited. High School Principal Brian Kazmierczak also said he would ask a friend, who was an expert in fitness equipment, for more information about the various types of equipment.

The lower quote approved by the board on Dec. 18 was the result.

A reorganizational meeting of the board will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 6:15 p.m., and the working school board meeting will be held the same evening at 6:30 p.m. in the board room.
