Lady Rebels take on top team

December 20, 2018

The Lady Rebels traveled to Mountain Iron to take on the Rangers of MIB. The Rebels were able to keep the game close in the 1st half. The Rangers took an early 6-0 lead in the first three and a half minutes, but the Rebels were able to bounce back to 12-7 with tight defense and scoring from Natalie Mikrot and Ella Rhoades. Rebel rebounding and tough defense created the turnovers that allowed the mini Rebel run. MIB was able to move past the Rebels late in the first half to 21-9 as the Rebels were unable to convert the turnovers from the Rangers into points. MIB took a 31-14 lead into the halftime.

The Rangers came into the second half more focused and determined. Their tight defense resulted in Rebel turnovers and converted those miscues into points. MIB beat the Rebels 79-37. The Rebel JV lost 69-22

"Looking at the final score, you would not think much of this game, but I was very proud of the way we battled Mountain Iron-Buhl. We knew we would have to play a near perfect game to beat them, but the score doesn't show how well we played. We held them to a season low in points for the first half, shot well from the free throw line, and showed great hustle all game. Unfortunately with about 10 minutes left we let the game get out of control. Credit to Mountain Iron-Buhl as they put pressure on us all night and did a good job of forcing turnovers. There is a reason they are one of the top teams in Class A. Defensively we only allowed 24 points in the half court game so if we could have handled their pressure a little better this might have been a much closer game. We will learn from this game and look to bounce back on Friday," Coach Padrick Judd said.

Both the Rebel boys and girls traveled to Grand Marais on Friday to take on the Cook County Vikings. The Lady Rebels played the early game and started out with a quick 6-0 lead. The Rebel tough defense again led to turnovers by the Vikings and the Rebels were able to pull ahead 10-0 at the 13 minute mark. The good down/low play by Ella Rhoades and Charis Blacklock pushed the Rebels out to 35-16 at the half.

Natalie Mikrot started the second half by scoring six threes early in the stanza to further the Rebel lead.
