Barnum's old fire hall to be taken down

November 22, 2018

Barnum Fire Chief Corey Hurst reported that the new fire truck is scheduled to arrive the first week of December, at the meeting of the Barnum City Council on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

The city council passed a motion to authorize the listing for sale of fire truck unit 494 in late December or early January. Hurst spoke about selling it on Lots for Bid, an auction website based in Wrenshall.

The council also approved a quote of $15,684 for the purchase of six sets of turnout gear for the fire department from Grand Forks Fire Equipment.

The city council accepted the low bid of $4,121 from David Gerard of Willow River for the demolition of the old fire hall on Main Street in Barnum.

The council also accepted donations to the fire department in memory of Don Harrington, a former firefighter.

A request from Robin Septic Service to dispose of sewage into the city’s sewage treatment system was approved.

A request for a temporary liquor license to the Rustic Diner was approved for two monthly events in January and February. It was explained that the diner will be hosting monthly dinners and beer from Moose Lake Brewery will be served.

The temporary liquor licenses will also have to be approved by the state of Minnesota, said City Clerk Bernadine Reed, before the temporary liquor licenses can be granted.

If approved, the diner intends to request monthly temporary liquor licenses for dinners throughout the year, said Reed.

The council also canvassed the ballots for the election of Lori Berglund and Justin Dinger to the council, and Jason Goodwin as mayor. All are incumbents.

The next meeting of the Barnum City Council was set for Monday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. The Truth in Taxation meeting will also be held at that time.
