Runners scope out future competition at Eveleth Lions Invitational

September 20, 2018

The MLWRB Cross Country team competed on Tuesday in the Eveleth Lions Invitational Cross Country Meet. With a large number of the teams from the same 7A section present, the meet gave the Varsity teams a chance to compete against some of the same teams they will face at the Section 7A championship race late in October.

The meet divided the Varsity and JV races up between A and AA schools. The Girls’ Varsity, Boys’ Varsity and Boys’ JV teams all finished fifth in each of their Single A sections against 19 teams.

The Girls’ Varsity and JV Single A race was the first race of the day. Coriella Sheetz finished 12th overall (first for the MLWRB team) in 21:56, followed by Kelli Granquist 18th in 22:20; Lilly Petty, a seventh grader competing in her first Varsity race, 38th in 23:58; Lexi Tekippe 42nd in 24:19; Laya Danelski 48th in 25:01; Savannah Gamst 49th in 25:06; and Ester Vogt 58th in 26:22.

The JV Girls finished third among the Single A JV teams. Individually, Kyra Heaton was third in 26:24; Delaney Koecher was fourth in 26:53; Meghan Granquist was eighth in 27:51; Kelly Crump was 26 in 34:43; and Anna Molis was 28th in 35:42.

For the Boys’ Varsity team Johnathan Danelski was 25th overall (first for the MLWRB team) in 19:19; Tan Dipman was 28th in 19:28; Lake Doran was 29th in 19:30; Maverick Koecher was 38th in 20:13; Danny Whited was 40th in 20:15; Spencer Lower was 64th in 21:47 and Wheeler Anderson was 76 in 22:29.

For the JV Boys’ team Ryder Anderson was 7th overall (first for the MLWRB team) in 23:00; Everett Gamst was 22ng in 24:16; Shawn Bailey was 24th in 24:22; Anson Vargo was 36th in 26:08; Blake Overland 40th in 27:19 and Carter Gran was 41st in 27:19.

The Jr. High race which ran boys and girls from both divisions together, featured some excitement when a race official accidentally sent the runners on an extra loop. For the girls, Rayna Klejeski was 22nd in 15:55; Lillia Jordan was 25th in 16:07; Shannon Granquist was 31st in 16:20; Riata Klejeski was 60th in 18:27; Elle Nielson was 62nd in 18:35; Addison Geil was 67th in 18:46; Addie Hanson was 71st in 19:01; Brynn Kamp was 86th in 20:04 and Kaitlyn Siedlecki was 100th in 26:11.
