The Moose Lake-Willow River-Barnum (MLWRB) Cross Country team are off and running. They competed in their second official meet at the GNK Titan Invitational in Coleraine.

It was a beautiful day for the 2500 meter long race for Junior High and the 5K race for JV and Varsity. All three girls' teams from MLWRB were well represented on the awards podium. The MLWRB Junior High girls finished second out of six teams. Individually, three MLWRB Junior High girls finished in the top 15: Lilly Petty, fifth in 10:20.1; Rayna Klejeski, 12th in 10:42.4; and Shannon Granquist, 13th in 10:43.8. Following for MLWRB was Ella Heaton, 24th in 11:17.8; Lillia Jordan, 27th in 11:22.2; Riata Klejeski 31st in 11:44.1; Elle Nielson, 33rd in 11:52.7; Addison Geil, 46th in 12:54.3; Addie Hanson, 47th in 12:55.7; and Brynn Kamp, 52nd in 13:22.3.

For Junior High boys, Winter Bowstring was the sole representative for MLWRB with 11:00.5 minutes to finish 70th out of a field of over 100.

Next up was the Girls' 5K Race with Varsity and JV running together followed by the Boys' 5K also with Varsity and JV running together. The first seven runners from each team to finish in both races make up the Varsity team for the race. The rest are scored as a JV team.

The Girls' Varsity team came in fourth in a very close race finishing only six points behind the second and third place teams out of 14. Coriella Sheetz was fourth in 21:40 and Kelli Granquist was 13th in 22:03; both received ribbons for being in the top 15 individual finishes. Also finishing in the top seven for their team were Savannah Gamst, 24th in 22:50.5; Lexi Tekippe, 39th in 23:32.20; Sarah Michels, 41st in 23:36.60; Laya Danelski, 44th in 23:46.10; and Esther Vogt, 58th in 25:07.3.

With just enough runners to score as a team - at least five runners are required - the JV Girls' team placed second overall. Kyra Heaton was fifth in 25:36.5; Delaney Koecher eighth in 27:08.8; and Meghan Granquist ninth in 27:44.9; all placed in the top 15 individually for JV. Also contributing to their second place team finish were teammates Kelly Crump and Anna Molis who were 21st and 22nd in 33:14 and 34:30.9 respectively.

The Varsity Boys' team finished seventh out of 14 teams and were represented by Maverick Koecher, 30th in 18:56.40; Lake Doran, 32nd in 19:00.4; Tan Dipman, 38th in 19:22.2; Danny Whited, 41st in 19:32.2; Johnathan Danelski, 43rd in 19:33.70; Shawn Bailey, 64th in 20:55; and Spencer Lower, 68th in 21:07.7.

The Boys' JV team placed fifth overall. Running the Boys' JV race were Everett Gamst, 26th in 22:10.5; Joseph Mikrot, 28th in 22:20.8; Ryder Anderson, 30th in 22:22.5; Connor Clausen, 32nd in 22:28.70; Carl Halverson, 39th in 22:44; Wheeler Anderson, 45th in 23:13.50; Levi Granda, 49th in 23:43.1; Anson Vargo, 64th in 25:30; and Carter Gran, 74th in 28:20.5.

The GNK Titan Invitational meet was the second official race of this season for MLWRB. A week earlier, MLWRB teams competed at the North Shore Challenge on the Pincushion Trails in Grand Marais on August 30th. The JV Boys' team won the 4K Junior Varsity Race. Individually Shawn Bailey, Everett Gamst, Connor Clausen, and Ryder Anderson all finished in the top 10. Varsity Boys, Jr. High Girls, and Varsity Girl's teams all finished third. Individually Lake Doran, Maverick Koecher and Johnathan Danelski finished in the top 15 for the Boys' Varsity Race. Individual medals were awarded to those finishing in the top 10 individually for the Jr. High and JV races and top 15 individually for the Varsity race.
