Alexis Bonneville goes for the kill against the Mariners.

The Barnum Bombers volleyball season opened on the August 28 with a road trip to Rush City to take on the Tigers.

The Bombers started out playing well with the loss of some strong players from last year. Mallory Agurkis, Sydney Baier, Megan Liimatainen, Lauren Peaney, Jennette Schmitt, Jessica Schatz and Izabell Carlson, all seniors, came together to play strong against the Tigers. The Tigers, however, had a strong line, taking the night from the Bombers in three sets. The first two sets saw a back and forth battle of scoring as neither team ran away with the sets. The Tigers put on the pressure during the third set and dominated the Bombers.

On August 30, the Bombers were on the road again, headed to Silver Bay to take on the Mariners. The Bombers would again come out strong and found themselves in the lead, but the Mariners came back to take the first set 25-20. In the second set, the Mariners jumped to the early lead but the Bombers did not go down without a fight as they would rally to bring the set to within just a few points. The Bombers dropped the second set to the Mariners 25-18. Early in the third set, though, the Bombers jumped to the early lead and never looked back, taking the set 25-17. The night would end with the Mariners taking the fourth set with strong hitting and well placed balls to drop the Bombers 25-12.

The Bombers take on the Pine City Dragons on September 6 on the home court at 6 p.m.
