Agate Encores Community Concerts is a new non-profit organization that has been formed in Moose Lake, and four concerts of professional entertainment will be presented locally.

"This started a year ago when we hosted the baroque orchestra from St. Paul in the new school auditorium," said Jeanne Doty, one of the members of the group. "Some of the comments that we heard afterward blew us away.

"Some time after that, Joe and Lee Mogen took on the challenge of setting up a concert committee. He said that we can do this; we don't have to drive to Duluth and pay high prices."

The organizers set up several other concerts later last year that were also well attended.

The first concert in the series of four in the remainder of 2018 and through spring of 2019 is "The Complete Gamba Sonatas by J. S. Bach" on Sunday, October 7, at 2:30 p.m. in the Moose Lake School Auditorium.

The second concert has been set for Friday, November 9, at 7 p.m. The Twin Ports Choral Project, "Give Strength to Bring Aid," will perform songs calling people to celebrate times when violence and wrath are met with renewal and hope, it stated in the description of the concert.

Christmas Pops and Classics by popular orchestras such as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller and Alan Silvestri/Jerry Brubaker, will be performed by the Mesabi Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, December 9, at 2:30 p.m.

And the fourth concert is set for Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. The UMD Woodwind Quintet will share their talents.

Season tickets are available for the four-concert series at $45. Family season tickets are also available for $115. The season tickets can be purchased at First National Bank in Moose Lake.

"There will be a limited number of tickets at the door for $15 for each concert," said Lee Mogen. "Everyone will show up for the Christmas concert. There won't be many available at the door."
