Papers were signed to sell the old Moose Lake school building on Friday, July 20. The school has been purchased by a group of four partners who plan to convert the building into housing units and for commercial use, said Craig Anderson, one of the partners, in a telephone interview on Monday.

Moose Lake Community School has some exciting news to announce. The sale of the old school has officially been completed! While this is exciting, it is bittersweet as many generations of families have walked those hallways. The new owner has plans to make what was the high school into apartments. He hopes to have amenities such as the gym and kitchen area available for community use. The new owner has been invited to our August 20 board meeting to present and talk about his plans for the new building. We are excited to see how he transforms the school into something new that will benefit our entire community.

We also have another piece of good news. The tax impact we promised for our bond for the new school was actually over 14 percent lower because of reduced interest rates. With that said, the school board is still looking at finishing items that got cut from the project on the outside of the school. There are many options, but the one the board is looking at doing is a $3 million wrap-around bond on our current school bond to finish all projects. This would have an impact of $18/year on a $100,000 house. This type of bond has a lower interest rate than other options and needs to be voted on by the public. Something we want to stress is whatever option we choose will have less of a total tax impact than what had been voted yes on in November of 2014. The fear that we have is that if we don't take this opportunity to finish the project now, it will never get done. The school board is serious about providing the best facilities and environment we possibly can for the children of Moose Lake Community School. Your input will be asked for soon as we plan to have a public meeting in the coming months to inform and take feedback.
