Friends of Animals in Cloquet, to close doors indefinitely

The Friends of Animals Humane Society based out of Cloquet announced on July 11 that it would be closing its doors no later than August 5. Over the last year and half, “there were several contributing factors,” the society posted to Facebook.

Having recently purchased a new building and undergone remodeling, the shelter finds itself with “too much debt to sustain shelter operations, (to pay off) the mortgage, finish remodeling and maintain the building,” the release stated. After timelines were delayed and costs went up, Friends of Animals is left with an unfinished facility and closed doors.

“To pay off and finish the renovation of our facility to healthy standards and pay for operations through the end of the year, we have concluded it would cost $350,000.”

Friends of Animals is turning to the community for help.

By closing their doors now, Friends of Animals is hoping to use the funds raised with the public’s help to pay off their bills, mortgage and to finish the renovation of their new facility. If they can accomplish this, they can re-open and continue their work as an animal shelter.

“Friends of Animals deeply believes in their mission to help the homeless animals in our community. We will be working to adopt out or transfer all the animals in our care to no kill facility partners by our close date. We will also not be taking any animals in, effective immediately.”

Their GoFundMe page now reflects the fundraising goal of $350,000, which can be found at
