On Sunday, June 17, the eighth grade Moose Lake/Willow River Rebel girls traveling basketball team was invited to play in the Pacesetter MN State Championship in Maple Grove. Eight teams were playing for four spots in the Great Five State Championship held in the Target Center on Saturday, June 30.

The Rebels had a first tough game against a Leech Lake team they had not played against in a couple years. The girls tried to stay with them but ended up losing by a score of 21 to 44. The Leech Lake team ended up making it into the championship game with a win against Esko. With the loss, the Rebels were placed in the Consolation bracket.

For their second game, they played Stephen-Argyle and came out strong and led by 12 at the end of the half. Unfortunately, the other team started hitting their shots in the second half and the Rebels did not and ended up losing a tight game 36 to 41.

In the last game of the day the girls were determined not to lose and it showed with a half time score of 27 to 3. The Rebels went on to finish the game with a big win of 40 to 14. The best part of this is in the combined first two games all the girls scored, but in this final game alone every Rebel girl scored, and that is always nice to see. This ends a long season for the Rebels eighth grade girls basketball team till the season starts up again sometime in November.
