Moose Lake Willow River's sixth grade boys' basketball team competed in the Gopher State Spring Basketball Tournament on Saturday, May 26, at Bloomington-Kennedy High School. The Rebels were the only sixth-grade school team. The other teams were AAU or all-star teams: Eden Prairie Thunder, 2024 Becker. MN Spartans, Wisconsin Playmakers and SUBA (Suburban Athletes). The formant of the tournament was round-robin with two 20-minute halves of running-time.

MLWR faced the Eden Prairie Thunder in the first game. At half-time, the Rebels were leading 20-16. Everyone got playing-time and the Rebels kept their lead at the buzzer 44-27.

Their second game they took on the Wisconsin Playmakers from Eau Claire Wisc. At half-time the score was close Rebels 19-WI 14. The Rebels shot 16 free-throws making 10. Nolan Nelson was seven for nine. Nelson had 17 points, Adam Neumann 13, Luke Dewey five, Hunter Van Heel three, Eli Youngs three, and Kaden Robbins two. The Rebels won 43-18.

These two wins moved them into the championship game against the SUBA team. At half-time, the Rebels were leading 20-12. The home team went on to win the championship 45-32 and receive the individual trophies.

The sixth-grade boys' next tournament will be the Pacesetter State Championship tournament on Sunday, June 17 in Maple Grove.
