Rebels speed past Bombers

Lauren Pederson drives the ball deep left field for the game winning homerun at the Moose Lake/Willow River - Barnum match-up on Thursday, May 3.

On Thursday, May 3 the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels softball played a double header, first traveling to Chub Lake to take on the Carlton Bulldogs. Though they played strong against the Bulldogs, in the end they fell short in the last inning to the Bulldogs 11-10.

The Rebels then returned to their home field in Willow River to host the Bombers of Barnum. They would be looking for some retribution after their last inning loss to the Bulldogs. Early in the second inning, the scoreboard revealed the Rebels had already made a statement, as the score was 5-0 in favor of the Rebels. They extended, bringing in three more runs to give them an 8-0 lead. Neither the Rebels nor the Bombers drove any runs in during the third inning, but the Rebels again scored in the fourth for a 9-0 lead. With a dry fifth inning, the sixth inning would be the final attempt for the Bombers to get on the board. Some nice pitching and better fielding from the Rebels would see that the Bombers would be unable to get any points on the board. At the bottom of the sixth inning, the Rebels' Lauren Pederson stepped up to the plate and swung the bat, launching the ball over the left field fence to give her the homerun giving the Rebels the 10-0 six inning victory over the Bombers.

The Bombers would have 21 plate appearances with 19 at bats, with one hit by Lea Peterson for a single. Sydney Baier would get two walks. The Bombers had seven players strike out with the Bombers going scoreless against the Rebels.
