An opening victory followed by losses

Moose Lake Willow River varsity baseball team was able to play their first game of the season in Moose Lake at the old school baseball field on Tuesday, April 24. Two Harbors' Agates came to town and took the victory 5-2.

Brandon Fogelberg took the loss on the mound for the Rebels. He went three innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out five. Others on the mound were Ian Coil, Mark Fossum and Danny Whited.

The Rebels had five hits, four errors and left nine players on base. Two Harbors racked up 10 hits, left 13 players on base and didn't commit a single error in the field.

Fossum led the MLWR with three hits in four at bats. Ethan Meyer and Fossum scored the two runs.

After the varsity game, the junior varsity teams played three innings. The Rebels took the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over Two Harbors. The game was tied at two with the Rebels at bat in the bottom of the third. Drew Danielson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Logan Privette was on the mound for the Rebels until the third inning, striking out five, allowing two runs on three hits. Ben Dewey was on the hill for the last out.

Rebels had three runs on three hits and only one error. Andrew Burn, Dewey, and Danielson all had one hit for the Rebel victory.

MLWR varsity struggle against Duluth Marshall

Thursday, April 26, Moose Lake Willow River Rebels' baseball team traveled to Wade Stadium in Duluth to take on Duluth Marshall. Marshall had taken fourth in the state last year. Marshall won 12-2 but both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning.

Danny Whited took the loss for the Rebels. He went four innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out three. Others pitching were Ethan Meyer, Mark Fossum and Cooper Bexell.

Jordan Fjosne, Ian Coil, Brendon Fogelberg and Mark Fossum each had one hit. Marshall had eight hits and seven stolen bases. Rebels had three errors to Marshall's one.

Rebels fall to Cloquet

Moose Lake Willow River's baseball team hosted Cloquet on Friday, August 27. Cloquet's high-powered offense won 13-2, but it took seven innings.

Cloquet scored six runs in the second inning. Both teams scored two in the third inning and both were held scoreless in the fourth.

Ian Coil took the loss for the Rebels, lasting two innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs and striking out one. Other pitchers were Brendon Fogelberg for three innings and Carter Klund for two innings.

Ben Dewey went two for three at the plate and had the only hits for MLWR. Cloquet had 15 hits and committed no errors to Rebels four errors.

After the varsity game, the JV played four innings. Cloquet won 12-6 on 11 hits with one error.

Logan Privette was on the mound for three innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, striking out five and walking one. Cooper Bexell threw one inning in relief. Carter Klund led the team with two hits. Bexell and Drew Danielson each had one. Rebels had seven walks.
