Drake Weets lands one of four outside shots in the Bomber win over the Patriots.

The Barnum Bombers started the afternoon of section 7AA basketball at UMD taking on the Patriots of Pequot Lakes on March 10. The Bombers took the early lead as Tyler Nynas and Kyle Kielty would both head to the basket to score, meanwhile Drake Weets would hit from the Perimeter for three. The Patriots, however, answered back against the Bombers strong start, not letting them get out of reach early in the game. The Bombers gained nearly a 10-point lead at one point, but the Patriots rebounded with a late first half push to reel the Bombers in. With a last second shot before the first half buzzer, the Patriots trailed by only three points.

Kielty would had seven first half points, Nynas scored six first half points, Weets and Braeden Hlavka both added five points; Sam Goodwin, Blaze Hurst and Tony Robinson all put in two points apiece. The Bombers tightly led the Patriots 29-26 going into halftime.

In the second half, Weets came alive beyond the arch, hitting three nice outside shots, while sliding inside to add a deuce, plus going 100 percent from the freethrow line, landing six for six, giving himself 17 second half points. Kielty found room to slide in from the wing to add six points, and shot 67 percent from the line, landing four for six, giving himself 10 second half points. Hlavka dropped in a pair of threes while going two for two from the line for a 100 percent freethrow attempt, giving him eight second half points. Quinn Casey would come off the bench for his defense, but found room to drive into the basket and scored a deuce for the Bomber. Sam Goodwin would find his position below the basket difficult, as the Patriots kept him on the move. He got the chance to go to the free-throw line, though, and dropped both his freethrows for two second half points. Nynas was shut down by the Patriots, only going to the line once in the second half to land one of two from there, giving him one second half point.

The Bombers shot 75 percent from the freethrow line, landing 18 of 24 shots during the game, while hitting seven outside shots. The Bombers walked away with the 69-59 victory over the Patriots. The Bombers advance to the section 7AA semifinals to take on the Blue Devils of Virginia, on Tuesday, March 13.
